What to expect on your first appointment
It is common for many people who are new to counselling or coaching to feel a little nervous before their first appointment. This is a completely normal and understandable response and I will do my utmost to help you feel as comfortable as possible. Therefore, it is suggested that you give yourself plenty of time to get to the appointment and relax for a few minutes before meeting. If possible please complete the forms attached to this page and bring them with you to your appointment. If you forget to bring them or do not have access to a printer, I will have the forms available for you.
During the first 50 minute meeting we will go over Consent for Services, the Payment Agreement, make the first payment and you will be issued a receipt.
We will spend considerable time discussing your current situation and develop a goal for our time together. We will discuss your hopes and expectations for your time with me. This is a great time for you to ask any questions you may have about my background, qualifications, approach, experience or the counselling or coaching process. Of course you may also feel free to ask any questions you might have on any subsequent appointments we may have together.
Since you are the expert in your life you will determine how many sessions you need and when you believe you have achieved your goals with me. For example, some people prefer just one session, others only a handful. Again, others might prefer a more long term approach. Still others might attend a small number of sessions and return in one month, six months or a year later. The main thing is that you are seeing the results you want in our sessions.
If at the end of our first meeting, or any subsequent appointment, you do not feel that I am the right professional for you I will assist you in finding another equally qualified counsellor or coach to continue with.
Please remember that all first sessions are always 50 minutes long but subsequent sessions can be 30 minutes long at a prorated amount.
Working with Dr. Conway
Dr. Conway uses a highly interactive approach to engage with clients. It is important to remember that while talking about issues and concerns during session is imperative, the best results often occur when people take what they have learned about themselves and their situations during session and incorporate these new insights into their lives outside of counselling. To this end, it is common that between session tasks and experiments are planned for the client to try. These experiences are then discussed during subsequent sessions to further promote lasting change. Client feedback is also highly encouraged so that the time spent in session is of most value.
If you're a new client, please complete the following forms and bring them to your first session if possible.
